Dr. Brian McCool & Dr. Tarika Bhuta are board-certified Ear Nose and Throat Specialists (ENTs).

We medically and surgically manage diseases and disorders of the ear, nose, throat, and related structures of the head and neck. We are trained to treat both adult and pediatric patients.

We offer friendly and personal care and welcome both new and established patients to our Homewood Office. We maintain affiliations with St. Vincent’s Hospital Birmingham, Brookwood Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Alabama.

Our Doctors

Dr. Brian J. McCool

Dr. McCool was born and raised in Huntsville.  He is a 1992 graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology.  He then completed four years of medical school, earning his MD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  After five additional years to complete his training in Ear, Nose and Throat, Head and Neck Surgery in Texas and West Virginia, Dr. McCool settled in Birmingham with his wife, Dr. Tarika Bhuta, in 2003.

Dr. McCool is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and is a fellow and member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His practice focuses on hearing loss and hearing aids, sinus surgery including Balloon Sinuplasty, Pediatric ENT, thyroid and parotid gland surgery, and treatment for nasal allergies.

Dr. Tarika Bhuta

Dr. Bhuta was born and raised in Montgomery. She received her Bachelors of Science degree and graduated with Phi Beta Kappa Honors from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1994. She completed four years of medical school in 1998, receiving her MD with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Bhuta then completed five years of training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (ENT) in Ohio and West Virginia. In 2003, she and her husband, Dr. McCool, settled in Birmingham to be close to their families in Huntsville and Montgomery.

Dr. Bhuta is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. She is a fellow and member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She is one of only a few female practicing ENTs in the state, and she focuses her practice on hearing loss and hearing aids, sinus surgery including Balloon Sinuplasty, pediatric ENT, nasal allergies.

Jackie Battle, MS CCC-A

Jackie Battle, MS CCC-A, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Pathology and a Master of Science in Audiology. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech and Hearing Association. She is licensed by the Alabama Board of Examiners for Speech Language Pathology and Audiology and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.

Jackie has been an audiologist in Birmingham for 32 years, and has accumulated vast knowledge and experience working with hearing disorders in both adults and children. She focuses on hearing aids and amplification devices for adults. Jackie uses different manufacturers to find the most effective hearing device for each patient’s hearing loss. By regularly attending continuing education seminars, she stays well informed on the latest technology in the hearing healthcare world.

Rachel Lynch, Au.D CCC-A

Dr. Lynch was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She received her Doctorate from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, and her Bachelors of Arts from the University of Alabama. Rachel completed her externship at the Memphis VA Medical Center. Upon recently returning to Birmingham, Dr. Lynch worked in the Manhattan area dispensing hearing aids for the adult population. Rachel has a special interest in adult amplification and aural rehabilitation. Rachel is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is licensed to practice audiology in the State of Alabama. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Audiology.
